Compressing images without losing quality
A modern phone photo can weigh 5, 8 or even 15 MB. That weight is meant to look perfect on a large screen, but it's excessive for sending over WhatsApp, attaching to an email, or uploading to a website — where it also slows down page load. Compressing an image reduces that weight by adjusting how the visual information is encoded, without changing what you see at a glance if the compression level is moderate.
This tool uses the same principle as professional image-optimisation apps: it adjusts encoding quality and, if needed, slightly reduces the pixel dimensions to reach a target weight, always aiming for the best possible visual result at that size. Which compression level should you pick?
High quality is the safest choice when the photo will be printed, enlarged or kept as a final file: the size saving is smaller but the loss of detail is nearly imperceptible. Balanced is the middle ground that works well for most cases — sharing on social media, attaching to a work email, uploading to an online store. Maximum compression prioritises size above everything else: ideal for galleries with hundreds of photos, avatars or thumbnails, where the on-screen size is already small and the difference isn't noticeable.
JPG, PNG and WebP: which to use
JPG is the most common format for photographs — it compresses very well but doesn't support transparency. PNG keeps transparency and sharp edges (ideal for logos and screenshots with text), at the cost of a larger size. WebP is a modern format that combines the best of both: good compression and transparency support, though some older programs still don't recognise it. What formats does it support?
JPG, PNG and WebP. The tool keeps each image's original format — a JPG comes out compressed as JPG, a PNG as PNG.

What's the maximum file size?
Up to 50 MB per image. For very large files, processing can take a few seconds longer because it depends on your device's memory, not your connection.
Is compressing the same as resizing an image?
Not exactly. Resizing changes the width and height in pixels; compressing reduces the file's weight by optimising how the image is encoded. This tool does both at once when needed, to reach the target size without leaving the image blurry.
